Balay Coffee: Reviews & Ratings

Me and my sisters came here on Sunday, it is quite busy which means this place is really good. We got a pandan matcha, pumpkin spice latte and patis karamel latte. I tried the patis karamel and I was curious about the taste because patis is fish sauce. It surprised me a lot, it tastes like salt caramel with a shot of expresso. If you want an iced coffee that’s not too sweet, GET THE DRINK LOL. I would get this again and the pastries were really good. We got ube pandesal, biko and Spanish bread. The staff was very friendly and helpful if you had questions for drinks. 10/10 would come back again and recommend my friends.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Balay Coffee – A Delicious Hidden Gem on Whyte Ave! Just discovered Balay Coffee, a new pop-up on Whyte Ave, and I’m already obsessed. If you’re into fancy, elevated coffee experiences, this is your spot. Think matcha with blueberry and cream—odd combo? I thought so too but trust me it tastes dreamy! The real magic? It’s all paired with homemade Filipino baked goods, both sweet and savory. Each bite feels like a comforting hug, with flavors that are unique, nostalgic, and totally crave-worthy. The vibe is also super chill and feels like everyone is family. The owners are kind and friendly. This pop-up is such a vibe—warm, inviting, and absolutely worth seeking out. 5 stars for creativity, flavor, and bringing something fresh to Whyte Ave!

I've really enjoy Balay Coffee whenever I get the chance to go, and love seeing them at local pop ups throughout the year such as Odd Bird Fair. The coffee is impressive and delicious albeit slightly pricy, but milk alternatives are free so maybe it's included in the price. Love Balay and always try to get their drinks while I can! I've had simple vanilla lattes there and it's delicious, and they create awesome unique flavours too, such as a Patis Karamel coffee drink which has honey and Southeast Asian flavours. Definitely unique cafe we have in Edmonton! Only downside of their location at the Hub is that the seating is kinda uncomfortable and small even for a short person like me.

Had a lovely pumpkin spice latte and a blueberry matcha latte, with a yummy pastry! The biko really complimented the flavours of my pumpkin spice latte, and my partner loved the blueberry flavour to the matcha, they found it to be a very unique flavour! Absolutely would come back, the decor was beautiful and service was great!

Ube matcha is one thing, but pandan matcha is simply exquisite! This café truly knows how to blend unique flavors with finesse. Every sip was a perfect balance of earthy matcha and fragrant pandan—absolutely unforgettable. Even the patis salted caramel latte is mind blowing! The ambiance is cozy, the staff are warm and welcoming, and the attention to detail in both drinks and presentation is top-notch. We will come back soon and recommend to everyone!

What a lovely quaint shop! I had the hot chocolate (made with 70% cacao from the Philippines …I believe), and it was delicious. The barista gave us a little heart latte foam. The place was a little hard to find as there’s no big sign. The shop has a decal on the front window with the coffee shop logo so you’ll have to be paying close attention when walking by. The atmosphere is lovely, very on brand for cute coffee dates or study sessions(there were students either laptops sitting in the booths). They have a variety of dairy free alternatives (my friend got a matcha latte with oat milk which she said was also delicious). They only have a couple things on their food menu from what we could see. We didn’t try any on this trip though. All around, a cute coffee shop on Whyte to try!
